What is Stress?

Stress is not a modern-day problem – it first reared its head about the same time our ancestors had to fight, flight or freeze for their survival.  In times of threat, the brain produces adrenaline which increases blood flow to the heart and limbs, increases heart rate, and generally prepares your body for survival.  Today we are not preparing to flee from animal predators but our bodies are still set up for the fight, flight, or freeze response when under a perceived threat

The fight, flight, or freeze response is a normal part of who we are and is actually still pretty useful at times.  People still use  use the adrenaline to push you on to hit a work or study-based deadline.  However, stress becomes a problem when it can no longer be managed and starts to take over what is happening for you on a day-to-day basis.

More and more Australians are experiencing acute stress with the key causes being money, family, health, and relationships. Working a therapist can assist you to identify the root causes of stress with a lens of empathy and compassion and provide you with evidence based strategies to help manage your stressor events. Hobbies that interest you and you are well involved in them can cope very well with stress. Recently, the online casino industry has been of great interest to many people.
