Getting started

What is Unboxed Pride?

An online psychology practice for LGBTQIA+ people across Australia. Every psychologist on our team is LGBTQIA+ affirming, and many are part of the community themselves.

Who can use Unboxed Pride?

Anyone in Australia aged 16 and over. We welcome LGBTQIA+ people, their partners, and the families and friends who support them.

How do I find the right psychologist?

Take our 2-minute Get matched quiz, or browse our psychologists. You can book a free 15-minute call with anyone before committing.

Is Unboxed Pride right for me?

We're a good fit if you'd like practical, evidence-based support from an affirming psychologist. Online therapy may not suit you if you:

  • are in crisis or at immediate risk of harm (see Crisis support)
  • need inpatient or intensive psychiatric care
  • need therapy as part of a court order
  • don't have a private space and reliable internet

Not sure? Book a free call and we'll help you work it out.

Sessions & psychologists

How do online sessions work?

Sessions are 50 minutes by secure video. You'll need a phone, tablet or computer, a stable internet connection, and a private space anywhere in Australia.

How should I prepare for my first session?

Find a quiet, private spot, use headphones if you can, and check your connection. Feeling nervous is completely normal. Your psychologist's first goal is to help you feel safe.

What do your psychologists help with?

Anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, coming out, gender identity, relationships, grief, trauma, self-esteem, alcohol and drugs, and more. Open All Services in the menu to see every topic.

Are your psychologists registered?

Yes. Every psychologist is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia through AHPRA and based in Australia.

What's the difference between a Registered and a Clinical Psychologist?

Both are fully registered and highly trained. A Clinical Psychologist has completed additional postgraduate study and supervised training in clinical psychology, which means a higher Medicare rebate.

Do you offer couples therapy?

Yes. See Couples therapy for how it works and pricing.

Is online therapy as effective as face-to-face?

Research shows online therapy works as well as in-person for most concerns, with the added comfort of being at home.

It depends on your policy, so check with your fund. You can't claim Medicare and private health for the same session.

What payment methods do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Yes. Card details are encrypted and tokenised, and never stored on our website.

I'm having trouble paying. What should I do?

Call us on (02) 6190 9200 or email hello@unboxedpride.com.au and we'll sort it out.

Medicare

What is a Mental Health Treatment Plan?

A plan your GP writes that lets you claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 psychology sessions a calendar year: 6 on your first referral, then 4 more after a GP review.

How do I claim my Medicare rebate?

Get a referral and plan from your GP, book your session, then upload them using the secure form we email you, or email them to hello@unboxedpride.com.au. We claim the rebate for you. See Medicare for the full steps.

What if I don't have a plan yet?

You can still book. Pay the full fee for now, and your rebates start from the session after we receive your plan.

Cancelling & rescheduling

What is your cancellation policy?
  • More than 48 hours' notice: no fee
  • 24 to 48 hours: 50% of the full fee
